1) Open terminal. Log in as root:
$ su -
enter root password. You will get # prompt.
Third Party Repositories: To set up the RPMFusion repositories (required for media players) :
rpm -ivh http://download1.rpmfusion.org/free/fedora/rpmfusion-free-release-stable.noarch.rpm

vi /etc/sysconfig/nspluginwrapper : edit the line 'export IGNORE_WRAP' adding this :libnpgoogletalk*:libnpgtpo3dautoplugin* at the end.

To make webcam (cheese) working (for Sony Vaio) :
To install vmpk (virtual midi piano keyboard):
yum install qsynth
yum install vmpk
Download soundfont from here. Put this in /usr/share/sounds/sf2/ directory.
Open qsynth and then vmpk. Note the channel number in vmpk.
Qsynth configuration: channel -> select the same channel number. In setup->MIDI, use alsa_seq driver, client ID: pid
Vmpk configuration: Edit -> connections-> Output MIDI Connection-> select FLUID Synth (Qsynth1). Edit->keymap-> make your own keymap file (save in .xml format).

Few more commands:
To update CPU temperature in the interval of 30 sec. :
echo 30 >/proc/acpi/thermal_zone/TZ01/polling_frequency
cat /proc/acpi/thermal_zone/TZ01/temperature (to see changes, check in the interval of 30 sec.)
(folder name TZ01 may vary)
To make root accessible from X-login:
(Fedora 13 prevents root login from X-login for security)
vi /etc/pam.d/gdm : comment the line “ auth required pam_succeed_if.so user != root quiet”
vi /etc/pam.d/gdm-password : comment the line “auth required pam_succeed_if.so user != root quiet”
To merge multiple pdf files:
gs -q -dNOPAUSE -dBATCH -sDEVICE=pdfwrite -sOutputFile=merged.pdf file1.pdf file2.pdf
